2  how quickly can you see my child?
At Foundations First, we aim to see your child for an assessment within 4 weeks of the initial parent consultation. You can check the available dates for consultations on the appointments page.
3  can foundations first provide the relevant expertise to meet the needs of my child?
At Foundations First all staff hold the appropriate professional qualifications and are registered with the Health and Care Professionals Council.
Foundations First was founded by Anne McCullough OT and Liz Borland SLT.  They gained their relevant experience working in Child Development Centres since the 1980’s!  They have experience working with a wide range of developmental conditions, focusing primarily on the preschool child.
4   MY CHild attends other therapies, will this be a problem?
Far from it; at Foundation First, we work with other services to help support them and yourselves in the best way possible.  Liaison and communication is essential.

5  my child is very shy, how will they cope in therapy?
At Foundations First we have a child friendly setting.  The child is encouraged to choose activities which interest them, we follow their lead and let them engage and interact at their own pace.  All interaction is through play and the unit is well equipped with large motor activities as well as table top play tasks.
6  What is parent partnership?
It is us working with you to help your child in their development.
At Foundations First, we believe parents are the KEY.  We encourage and require parents to be involved in their child’s intervention.  It not only helps your child to settle but also provides you with a better understanding of how your child functions, the strategies used in therapy and the opportunity to practise them before using them in the home setting.

7  Do i have to commit to the full package of consultation, assessment and intervention?
At each stage, there is full discussion about which is the best way forward for the parent and the child and there is no obligation to accept the full input from Foundations First.  Whether you select just the consultation and assessment, you will still be given advice and home programmes to help your child.
8  What happens if I book an appointment for consultation and my child is not right for your service?
In this case, the family will be personally contacted by a member of the Foundations First team, the consultation fee will be refunded and written notification will be forwarded.
9  IS IT POSSIBLE TO BOOK A BLOCK OF OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY SESSIONS ONLY, AS MY CHILD HAS BENEFITED
GREATLY FROM PREVIOUS OT INTERVENTION WITH THE NHS?
At Foundations First, our priority is on joint OT and SLT intervention. However, there may be limited availability of OT only appointments.
Please contact us to check for available dates.
10  What are the fees for joint ot/slt assessment and therapy intervention at foundations first?
Each child has different needs.  We provide a bespoke service dependent on the needs of the child.
Our current list of assessment and therapy prices/fees are available upon request.  Please click on the enquiries button at the bottom of the page to access the contact form.  We can then have an informal discussion regarding the likely costs if appropriate.
11  Disabled access - do you have wheelchair access?
Due to the original design of the building, a former private residence, we are unable to offer full disabled access for wheelchair users.
Please feel free to contact us if you have any concerns or would like further information.
