Intervention

Parents, carers and families are by far the most important influences in a child's life. Their support can play a vital role at all stages of development.

Parents know their child best; their unique ways and individual abilities.  It is our aim to help parents understand how their child functions, their strengths and challenges, as well as the strategies most likely to help them progress.  We believe having parents present and active in their child’s intervention, is part of this process of change.

Intervention provided at Foundations First is joint OT and SLT.  By using this combined approach we find it is the best support for your child’s development. Your child will be offered 6 therapy sessions, focusing on the development of essential skills, highlighted at assessment.

Advice, resources, and home programmes will be supplied.  Parents are encouraged to observe and practise the strategies used in sessions and by including them into everyday situations at home, the potential for progress is enhanced.

Following completion of the intervention, a therapy report is provided and, with parents' consent, there can be communication and liaison with other support services.

Outcome

  • A greater understanding of your child's strengths and challenges
  • Practical strategies and resources to encourage development
  • Guidance on your child's future needs
